National Medical Care Utilization and Expenditure Survey (NMCUES) Series B, Descriptive Report No. 21. Ambulatory Care Utilization and Expenditures among Medicaid Recipients in Four States

The report is based on 1980 data collected from a household survey of a randomly selected panel of civilian, noninstitutionalized Medicaid recipients in NY, CA, TX, and MI. It was a component of the 1980 National Medical Care Utilization and Expenditure Survey (NMCUES). A stratified sample was drawn from each State's eligibility file to yield 1,000 Medicaid noninstitutionalized cases (about 3,400 persons) in each State. Data were collected in a series of five interviews during the period from February 1980 through April 1981 concerning the use of medical services, expenditures, health insurance coverage, and employment. The data in this report are based on persons enrolled in Medicaid for all of 1980. The data presented include the services used, rate of use, expenditures, sources of payment by assistance category in each of the four States by demographic, socioeconomic, and health status of the recipients for the following ambulatory medical services: physician services, prescriptions, dental services, and other medical providers.
