Fracture Mechanics Analysis and Prediction of Delamination Growth in Composite Structures

A model for analysis of delamination growth in composite structures is suggested. The model predicts delamination growth from the range in total strain energy release rate, experimentally obtained by compliance measurements and nondestructive measurements of delamination areas. The model is found to provide reasonable predictions of compressive fatigue behavior in notched carbon/epoxy laminates.
