摘要

Models based on Fourier transform-infrared spectrometry and gas- chromatograpohy-mass spectrometry of DNA from the human prostate, breast, and ovary have been developed. The application of the models to various stages in the progression of normal tissue to the metastatic state has revealed that DNA undergoes identifiable changes in structure in the development of malignancy. The structural changes in DNA allow for the creation of prediction models (e.g., for cancer) that have promising clinical applications. Moreover, preliminary studies of the hepatic DNA from control and exposed (i.e., to dimethylnitrosamine) Japanese Medaka suggest that the same models would potentially have application to identifying changes in the DNA of aquatic organisms exposed to toxic chemicals.
