SOME MEASUREMENTS OF SWIRL IN PUMP SUCTION PIPES

Some measurements of flow conditions in suction pipes have been made in the laboratory and results are given in this Report. The first series of experiments concerns swirl arising from unsuitable shapes of sump, and the second series with the swirling flow issuing from a double-bend system. In all the tests the pump was remote from the test section and its influence on the flow in the suction pipe can be discounted.
