Load Induced Interaction Among the Constituents of Fibrous Composites

A background study was made of literature selected from the field of fiber-plastic composites to better understand some of the central problems connected with load induced interaction of the separate constituents. Only minimum essential mathematical models were considered for illustrative and unifying purposes, and certain simple but general conclusions were drawn. It was decided that fabrication irregularities of a certain type might be one of the main causes of early failure under shearing stresses. It was pointed out that an adequate theoretical failure model is lacking and some suggestions are made for research in this area. (Author)
