摘要

The program concern was the development of a remote,non-interfering probe suitable for measuring particle sizes and concentrations in rocket exhaust flows. The probe utilizes Mie scattering of laser radiation into two directions,one in the forward and the other in the rearward lobes. The relative magnitude of the scattered light signal is related to the particle size. A flat diffusion flame with trimethylaluminum and oxygen as reactants was used as a source of alumina condensate. A study of the condensation process in the flame was not carried out. The diagnostic was developed to the point that a device suitable for use in a rocket test facility could be designed.
