A method for the selective detection of ammonia in the atmosphere is presented. The method utilizes the adsorption of ammonia on the surface of a piezoelectric quartz crystal coated with an extract of Capiscum annuum pods, ascorbic acid, or ascorbic acid with silver nitrate; the latter is the best substrate.
