The New Year already seems a distant memory, so perhaps it is a little late to be commenting on the New Year and passing on seasonal greetings. That said, we are only just approaching the end of February, so perhaps now is a good time to look forward at what the future holds. From a paper making perspective, the year has already gotten off to a good start. The first 'saleable paper' rolled off the Saica Paper Machine in Partington (on the outskirts of Manchester) on 18th January 2012 and I am pleased to welcome our new colleagues (some of whom are old friends) to the UK Paper Industry. There will still be much work to do, adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal, as the machine moves towards full production and optimisation and we wish everybody 'buena suerte' over the coming weeks. We will be publishing a detailed review of the Saica Operation in a future edition of Paper Technology and hope to arrange a mill visit later in the year.
