A new cadmium-biimidazole compound, [Cd(2,2 '-biimidazole)(2)(ClO4)](n)nOH center dot 2nH(2)O (1), has been obtained via solvothermal reactions and structurally characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the space group P2(1)/c of the monoclinic system with four formula units in a cell: a = 6.8785(11), b = 17.938(3), c = 14.985(2) angstrom, beta = 91.589(2)degrees, V = 1848.3(5) angstrom(3), C12H17CdClN8O7, M-r = 533.19, D-c = 1.916g/cm(3), S = 1.048, mu(MoK alpha) = 1.383mm(-1), F(000) = 1064, R = 0.0326, and wR = 0.0900. Compound 1 is characteristic of an infinite one-dimensional chain-like structure.
