The Considerate Parking Initiative helps keep the pavements and driveways clear. A Considerate Parking Initiative (CPI) has been launched in Brightlingsea, a seaside town in north Essex. The initiative aims to highlight issues around anti-social, or inconsiderate parking and the effect this can have on a community. The CPI is a partnership arrangement between Essex Police, Tendring District Council, Brightlingsea Town Council and the Tendring Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership. Police officers, police community support officers (PCSOs) and the district council's civil enforcement officers (CEOs) issue notices to vehicles parked in a manner that whilst not necessarily illegal, or in contravention of existing Traffic Regulation Orders. They also look for vehicles causing a nuisance to others. "The notices have a clear design and are controlled stationery which records all vehicle details for future reference and follow-up by the PCSOs if necessary," says Ian Taylor, Tendring District Council's parking manager. "The notices provide information as well as a warning. The idea behind the initiative is to provide an opportunity for motorists to understand the consequences of their actions, to alter their parking habits and therefore avoid the need for further regulation of the roads, or for the police to issue notices for obstruction."
