Design and development of the torsion spring friction buffer: exploring the capabilities of this novel mechanical principle

This article discusses the torsion spring friction buffer, the mechanical principle behind it, and the design and development of this device. To demonstrate the benefits and uses of the torsion spring friction buffer, a prototype model wasdesigned, fabricated and statically tested.The three graphs (below and opposite page) illustrate the loading characteristics of the recoil spring and the torsion springs when tested separately and together.
