A study was conducted in Islamabad in 1995 to ascertain the differences among four Pakistani wheat cultivar, Arz, Pak-81, Lu-26 and Pavon, with respect to their tolerance to salinity of sodium chloride and calcium chloride stresses. In vitro callogenesis and organogenesis responses were studied. A Murashige and Skoog modified medium supplemented with different concentrations of chloride salts was used. Striking differences in callus induction and regeneration were observed under salinity stresses of sodium chloride and calcium chloride salts in four wheat cultivars. The most tolerant cultivar was LU-26, followed by Pavon, Pak-81 and Arz.
