Calcium chloride conversion to sodium chloride in aq. soln. - by passage over anion exchanger and regenerating with sodium hydroxide

CaCl2-enriched wash media, obtd. as aq. recycle streams in air purification plant, are pumped over anion exchangers and rengenerated with NaOH to convert CaCl2 to ecologically harmless NaCl. Ca ions released are recycled to wash liquid, whereby activity of wash liquid is fully maintained. Used for scrubbing Cl2 and HCl from wate gases with wash waters contng. milk of lime. Ca ion recycle reduces or avoids need for continuous replenishing with CaO or Ca(OH)2; highly pure material from ion exchangers increases sorption of wash liquids and allows use of smaller wash liquid vols. w.r.t. vol. of gas to be washed.
