Can leaders be created? A simple question, but also an absolutely vital one. These are tough times for physicians, and interventional cardiologists in particular, calling for a steady stream of effective leaders. Many believe that leaders are simply born, as in the so-called "born leader." These individuals find their way naturally to being great leaders through strength of character, vision, confidence, and inspirational work. Others believe that leadership can be taught to individuals of high potential, by showing them the time-honored paths to leadership and making sure they acquire the tools they will need.
