An apparent attempt by US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Chairman Gregory Jaczko to strengthen the agency’s regulatory mandate has hit a wall of opposition inside the agency, with two of the five commissioners issuing proposals to slow his 90-day timeline for voting on an NRC task force’s post- Fukushima safety review. That leaves Jaczko without a commissioner to spare if he’s going to get the reforms he wants, and one of them does not appear inclined to help him out.
