The automotive industry has played a key role in the nation's development with domestic manufacturer Hyundai now the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world. More than 20 million vehicles are on the road in South Korea, an increase of five million in just nine years. However, economic developments and changes in legislation have had a consider- able impact on South Korea in recent years, which could have far reaching consequences for the fuels and lubricants industry in the years to come.
