The need for burns teaching: A cross-sectional study to assess burns teaching in the United Kingdom

Dear Editor, In the United Kingdom burns are a common form of trauma, counting approximately 250,000 [1] cases per year. Junior doctors come across burns throughout a range of specialties, including Emergency Medicine, Trauma, Plastic Surgery, Dermatology and General Practice. Although we believe that burns should be a requirement in the medical curriculum, not all Medical Schools provide such training due to time and financial constraints. With this in mind, we decided to investigate the type of burns teaching provided by Medical Schools in the United Kingdom.
