Montefiore Hospital, founded in 1884 by Jewish community leaders in New York, was established to help patients with chronic illnesses. It later evolved into a major academic institution- the University Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The hospital recruited staff that had dual interests in clinical duties and research. The following individuals discussed below helped lead to this transition.
