One of the US Gulf's biggest ever deepwater fields has just got bigger, with Unocal proving up a significant extension to BP's Mad Dog field.Partner Unocal said the appraisal well drilled on the Mad Dog Southwest Ridge encountered significant hydrocarbon pay and was further delineated by three sidetracks.The original hole was drilled to a total measured depth of 22,890ft (6,976m) from Green Canyon Block 826 to downdip targets in the adjacent GC 825 block.The blocks are located in approximately 5,000ft (1,524m) of water.
