摘要

For many, 14 February (Valentine's Day) is seen as the day when intimate companions celebrate their love for each other by giving gifts of flowers, confectionery and cards. Few perhaps stop to think where the idea comes from*it is named after one of early Christian martyrs, Valentine, The day, however, was first associated with romantic love in the time of Geoffrey Chaucer in the Middle Ages (1380s). Not all countries celebrate it in the way the UK and the USA do, with some Middle Eastern countries actually banning it. In Finland it is translated as 'friend's day' and is the time when you remember good friends.
