NSDNR launches policy review: Promoting uneven-aged management is one item on a large agenda

Nova Scotians may be grumbling about having to vote in a federal election this winter, but soon afterward they will be asked to perform a more challenging civic duty. As part of a broad policy review, the provincial Department of Natural Resources (NSDNR) will be soliciting public input on a number of forestry issues. As in democracy, those content with the status quo appear indifferent to the planned consultation process, while others take a cynical view, believing that the necessary changes will never be made. But some environmentalists and woodlot owners are optimistic that the door may be opening a crack, presenting new opportunities for forest management outside the industrial mainstream.
