Advantages of a two speed reversing gear in small ships

The layout of the driving plant for a fishing vessel or a tog requires a special consideration of the different conditions of operation being free or towing operation. In a comparison of a conventional transmission with a driving plant which isequipped with a two speed reversing gear economical and technical advantages of the two speed gear are shown and experiences from practice are described.
