A magnetic surface molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) with thiamphenicol (TAP) specificity was prepared by using thiamphenicol as a template molecule, methacrylic acid (MAA) as the functional monomer, and silicon dioxide-coated ferriferous oxide (Fe3O4 @ SiO2) as the magnetic carrier. The composition, thermal stability, and magnetic properties of the polymer were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and vibration sample magnetometer (VSM). The results of these studies show that the imprinted polymer layer was successfully applied to the surface of the Fe3O4@SiO2 magnetic material, and that the imprinted particles retain desirable magnetic properties. The MMIPs were applied to extract and quantify thiamphenicol in milk samples. The specific recognition capability of the polymers was affirmed by high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) analysis, establishing the limit of detection (LOD) as 10 mu g/L and a recovery rate of greater than 85%. A rapid and selective method was established to quantify TAP using MMIPs as a sorbent. The method was used to detect thiamphenicol in milk samples with satisfactory results.
