摘要

The interaction and the reciprocal influence between the actor and the spectator in a theatre setting is one of the foremost questions of actors, playwrights, directors and theatre scholars. This interaction also impacts on discussions about acting styles and the purpose and value of theatre. Maria Turri presents a series of theories to these questions by examining the unconscious processes between the actor and the spectator in Acting, Spectating and The Unconscious. Turri writes that the principal aim of this book to enrich the discourse on theatre spectator-ship with a conceptual framework grounded in psychoanalysis, in order to provide a theory and a language to describe those universal aspects of theatre reception which, embedded within our unconscious psyche, have so far been neglected.
