Lysergic acid diethylamide as an analgesic agent in patients with terminal illnesses

Since its discovery, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) has been known as a notorious substance of abuse. However, several therapeutic potentials of LSD have surfaced following decades of experimentation. In this article, we have highlighted one such beneficial potential of LSD when used as an analgesic agent in patients with terminal illnesses. We have discussed the relevant physiological and pharmacological aspects of LSD, clinical studies and safety concerns associated with the use of this drug as an analgesic agent.
