Mobile Software Agents for the Support of Chronic Illnesses: A Case Study in Diabetes Management for Rural Areas

Chronic illnesses account for a substantial part of healthcare budgets in countries all over the world. Unfortunately, this cost of treating patients with chronic illnesses is growing due the ageing population. Healthcare and information technology professionals are working on various e-Health solutions to counter this problem. Thanks to the proliferation of the Internet and software agent technologies, researchers are experimenting with these technologies to improve the quality of healthcare at existing level of expenditure. This paper presents a case study in Diabetes (a common chronic illness) management using mobile agents with particular reference to the rural areas.
