Students enjoy highlights throughout the week

The students who attended Materials Week '96 in Cincinnati had a multitude of opportunities for information, networking, fun, and knowledge throughout the week. The week kicked off with the traditional Sunday evening Student Night activities co-sponsored by ASM and TMS. The evening began with Bob Hanlin and Carolyn Merritt, co-chairs of the Action in Education Team, and Tresa Pollack of the TMS Student Affairs Committee recognizing scholarship recipients from each society. The five 1996 Chapters of Excellence winners were also announced. The event included a presentation by Richard J. Konieczka, Sound Communications, who gave the 150 students, faculty, and round table hosts in the audience some straightforward information about how people communicate and the challenges the technical person may face in communicating with potential employers and colleagues. His talk entitled "The Technical Communication Model" was humorous and to the point and was followed by a question-and-answer session led by Bob Hanlin.
