This monograph is intended for the primary care physician or nurse practitioner caring for chil-I dren to assist in managing the growing epi-demic of hypertension in the pediatric population. The approach is one to assist with the measurement of blood pressure (BP), the identification and diagnosis of hypertension, understanding the new concepts that end-organ damage due to hypertension occurs even in childhood, beginning an evaluation for the etiologies of hypertension and associated comorbidities, and finally, addressing therapeutic lifestyle changes and the issues of whom to treat with the proper selection of antihypertensive medications.
