Bidders approved for Mexican oil auction

Mexico City —Five consortia and nine individual companies have been qualified to bid for the second phase of Mexico’s Round One upstream oil auction, the National Hydrocarbons Commission said last week. Sierra Oil and Gas is a Mexican start-up that won both of the only two blocks that were awarded in phase one on July 15, which was the first upstream auction in Mexico for 77 years, following the abolition of the state monopoly on oil by last year’s energy reform.
