Swiss-based oil-field services firm Weatherford International said it has agreed to pay a total of $253 million to settle cases in the US involving charges of bribery and violating international trade sanctions. According to charges filed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), from 2002 through 2011 Weatherford offered bribes to foreign officials in the Middle East and Africa and engaged in illegal commercial transactions in US sanctioned countries including Cuba, Iran, Syria and Sudan.
