THE NATIONWIDE HEALTH Information Network (NwHIN) was originally defined as a "set of standards, services, and policies" by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) in 2007. Further changes were established in February 2009 as a part of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, with the intent of setting up a foundation for how heath information would be exchanged in the US.
