摘要

Is there any difference between communication and engagement? I believe that there is, yet in many organizations it has become associated with the act of “aligning people” after decisions have already been taken and a strategy has been formed. Communicating “at” people after the decisions and plans are made is completely to miss the point – it's not engaging people at all.For me, employee engagement is first and foremost a management philosophy based on the idea of including the right people in the right decisions at the right time in the right way. Inclusion in decision making, however, is certainly not a one-way ticket for employees to interfere unduly in a company's decision making processes. Indeed, while leadership must set the boundaries and govern its implementation, citizens in the process have responsibilities themselves to behave as partners.
