A cultural and horticultural journey through the Chinese garden

Within a few years, travelers wishing to explore a diverse array of traditional Chinese gardens can forego a 15-hour transpacific flight and instead journey along the west coast of North America. Exquisite examples of the classical Suzhou-style garden of eastern China have been built in Vancouver, B.C. and Portland, OR, and another is under construction at the Huntington Botanical Gardens near Los Angeles. In Seattle, WA, the first small, open-aired pavilion and its surrounding garden offer an enticing hint of what will be the only garden of the Sichuan style to be built outside China.
