摘要

As I have stated previously in this column, there is no such thing as a wasted education. Whether vocational or ac-ademic, the value of any education is intrinsic, and need not be justified by salary level, position, peer approval, or even practicality. We need all educational disciplines to form an enriched and enlightened society. The beauty of a diversely educated culture lies in the interrelationship of its various disciplines. Let's take the collaboration of the arts and manufacturing, for example. Pianists, whether of Elton John's or Arthur Rubinstein's genre, could not display their mastery if there were no skilled woodworkers to shave their soundboards or metalcasters to mold their harps. Similarly, educated and well-trained jet fighter pilots would be useless if there were nobody designing and building jet airplanes for them to fly.
