UK - This month sees Williams Hybrid Power (WHP) Ltd of Grove, Oxfordshire together with its partner GKN EVO start to work with bus operator, Go-Ahead, to retrofit its GyroDrive hybrid flywheel system into six Volvo diesel-powered buses. The system is to provide electro-mechanical energy to drive the bus with the aim of delivering substantial improvements to fuel economy and reduce CO_2 emissions, according to Frank Thorpe, head of bus systems at the UK's low carbon vehicle event in Millbrook, last month. The vehicles are to be retrofitted over a sixth month period with completion by April 2014.
