Microparticles (MPs) are considered as key components of the haemostatic system. These are small membrane vesicles shed from normal and/or tumour cells following activation or apoptosis. They can be captured in the developing thrombus and lead to thrombin generation by expression of procoagulant phospholipids (PL) and tissue factor {TF) [1,2]. The co-expression of TF and PL such as phosphatidylserine on MPs is highly prothrombotic. We have previously demonstrated that acute leukemic cells as promyelocytic cells generate MPs with procoagulant activity (PCA) linked to TF and PLs [3-7].
