摘要

Kathy Harper is director of undergraduate curriculum development in the physics department at The Ohio State University. She has been involved in local and national workshops for in-service teachers and conducts research in student problem solving. New teachers are sometimes surprised at how most students differ from them. Some differences are due to personality or interests, but many are due simply to the greater experience the teacher has had with the material. Below are summarized a few results from research comparing expert and novice problem solvers, along with implications for teaching. None of the strategies alone is a problem-solving panacea; try the strategies that best fit your style.
