Endometrium was obtained at different stages of the oestrous cycle of cows. After 1 h of preincubation, endometrium was exposed to 0 or 100 nM oxytocin for 4 h. The concentration of PGE2 in the medium was higher than that of PGF2alpha during the luteal phase of the oestrous cycle, and declined at the regressed luteal stage (P<0.05). The secretion of PGF2alpha was highest at the regressed luteal stage (P<0.05). Oxytocin significantly stimulated the secretion of both PGs at the early luteal stage (P<0.05). Although oxytocin enhanced PGF2alpha secretion at the late and regressed luteal stages (P<0.05), PGE2 secretion was reduced by oxytocin at these times (P<0.05).
