Effect of non-genetic factors on the composition of milk of Murrah buffaloes.

摘要

This study reports the composition of milk of graded Murrah buffaloes and the factors influencing them. The average fat, protein, lactose and SNF content in buffalo milk was 7.62+or-0.03, 4.11+or-0.02, 4.92+or-0.01 and 9.67+or-0.02%, respectively. The fat percentage in milk was significantly influenced by the lactation number, season of recording and stage of pregnancy. The fat percentage in milk increased from first to third lactation and then declined in subsequent lactations. The lowest fat was recorded during the months of April to June. The fat content increased with increase in the stage of pregnancy. The protein and lactose content was not influenced by the lactation number and the stage of pregnancy. The protein and lactose content was not influenced by the lactation number and the stage of pregnancy. The season of recording has significant influence on protein content. The highest protein content of 4.23 was recorded during July-August and the lowest at 3.94% in winter season (November-January). The SNF content was significantly influenced by the stage of pregnancy and season of recording of SNF but no systematic trend of effect of these factors on SNF could be observed.
