Afew years ago my cousin Gary offered to purchase two grandfather clock movements if I was prepared to design and make the clock cases. There were some major interruptions and the clocks were not finished until early 2010. The two clocks are absolutely identical and my family refers to a photograph of the two clocks and myself as 'the three grandfathers'.The design utilises old Greek and Roman classical elements, as can be seen in the pediments of many fine public and historic buildings around the world: Each of these elements or motifs has a name and the ones I used include dentils, acanthus leaves, waves, bead and billet, egg and dart, swagges, triglyphs and rosettes.
