The Sage group transferred its three ISO 9000:1994 certificates to a single new standard without too many traumas in March this year. But what was the driving force behind the decision and what challenges did Sage face on the journey? Carol Crossley, one of two consultants who has supported Sage throughout the transition, gives an insight into how things were done. Founded in 1981 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Sage specialises in accounting software and employs over 5,000 people worldwide. Within the Sage Group, there were already three divisions that held ISO 9000:1994, but with office locations in Newcastle (Sage HQ), Winnersh, Manchester, Wimbledon and Dublin the decision was made early on that with the publication of the new standard, upgrading would provide an opportunity to work towards a single certificate.
