Carbendazim residues in mushrooms and mushroom bedding.

Mushrooms' producers always have a problem with chemical protection against pests and diseases. Basically these troubles resulted from a poor assortment of registered in Poland essential plant protection products (PPPs). Detected in harvested mushrooms residues of not approved PPPs, especially carbendazim containing, are the confirmation of this status quo. In addition also EU member states control services detect carbendazim residue in Polish mushrooms. For Polish mushrooms' producers and exporters such a situation can cause heavy economical loss, because these respective authorities are able to restrict Polish mushrooms access to their markets. Polish mushrooms' manufacturers pointed at mushroom ground producers the reason of carbendazim residue presence in Polish mushrooms. In order to verify this information Wielkopolska Voivodeship Inspector of Plant Health and Seed Inspection obligated Plant Protection Products Residues Research Department of Institute of Plant Protection-National Research Institute (IPP-NRI) in Poznan to perform pesticide residue tests, particularly carbendazim in mushroom ground samples from Wielkopolska professional producers. Results of two year mushroom ground sample testing show that all determined carbendazim and other compounds residues are originated from PPPs authorised for cereal protection, but the residue levels do not allow to conclude that they are the source of carbendazim residues in harvested mushrooms.
