Vegetable-derived isothiocyanates: anti-proliferative activity and mechanism of action.

The impact of dietary isothiocyanates from vegetables on the survival and proliferation of cancer cells is discussed with reference to: antiproliferative effects; generation of acute cellular stress (alkylation and depletion of cellular glutathione, damage to mitochondria and generation of reactive oxygen species in cells, induction of apoptosis); and the impact of isothiocyanates on cell cycle progression.
