摘要

An astonishing occurrence took place on January 23 when an inter-city express derailed while leaving London Liverpool Street.. .but then climbed back onto the rails by itself. The incident happened as the 10.00 Greater Anglia service, comprising a nine coach rake led by a DVT and propelled by a Class 90, came off the rails at 15mph about 200 yards from the end of the platform. The train was halted but as there appeared to be nothing wrong with it by then, it was allowed to carry on to Norwich, where an inspection found what the Rail Accident Investigation Branch describes as "wheel damage consistent with a derailment". The train was then taken out of service and a track inspection was ordered at Liverpool Street. That too showed that damage had been caused to the rails and points, confirming the reports of passengers, who had experienced "bumps and loud noises".
