Whitty seeks proposals on new products agency

Environment minister Lord Whitty has asked e Advisory Committee on Consumer Products and the Environment to flesh out its "interesting" proposals for a new products agency and the idea of environmental impact assessment for products. The Environment Department (DEFRA) may also expand its Market Transformation Programme into areas beyond energy and water efficiency. ACCPE first made the suggestion that it should be replaced with a new executive body responsible for developing and delivering integrated product measures a year ago in a report offering recommendations for the Government's framework for sustainable consumption and production (ENDS Report 344, pp 35-36).
