The humble rubber duck remains a popular waterborne novelty, nowhere more so than in Hong Kong, where the world's largest bath toy docked at Tsim Sha Tsui, near the Harbour City shopping mall in Kowloon, on 2 May. The 16.5m-high duck is the creation of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, who claims that it has healing properties and can relieve global tensions. The "water in the world is our global bathtub", he added, but declined to reveal whether the duck is fitted with a ballast water system. Mainland Chinese have been flocking to HK on one-day package tours that include a short cruise around the duck.
