Application of background estimation and removal techniques for the extraction of the power line components on the digital images for the automatic power line inspection systems

Jednym z najbardziej typowych problemów w analizie obrazów uzyskiwanych podczas inspekcji linii energetycznych jest konieczność usuwania elementów stanowiących tło. Zazwyczaj w przypadku obrazów uzyskiwanych z poziomu ziemi tło jest stosunkowo łatwe do usunięcia (np. niebo z chmurami) dzięki dużemu kontrastowi. Jednakże dla niektórych obrazów lotniczych a także uzyskiwanych z poziomu ziemi może wystąpić bardziej złożone tło (np. drzewa, budynki, drogi). Metoda zaprezentowana w pracy jest użyteczna w obu tych przypadkach. Jest ona oparta na analizie obrazu z wykorzystaniem elementów charakterystycznych dla poszczególnych części linii energetycznych np. słupów energetycznych.%One of the most typical problems during analysis of the images acquired for the power lines inspection is the necessity of removing the background elements on them. Usually for the images taken from the ground the background is quite easy to remove (e.g. sky with clouds) because of the high contrast. Although, for some aerial images and also for some taken from the ground there may be the situation where the background is much more complex (e.g. trees, buildings, roads). The method presented in the paper is designed for both cases. It is based on the analysis of the image with the usage of some characteristic individual transmission line components e.g. transmission towers.
