The New Rail Link through the Alps ("NEAT") forms a central element in a European transport corridor. Seen in its entirety, that route runs from Rotterdam to Genoa, and the intention is to increase the transport and travel capacities of one of Europe's most important transport axes. At the heart of the new axis is the Gotthard Base Tunnel, which has been described as the engineering work of the century. A company called IMC GmbH has been in charge of the specialist side of commissioning and execution of the technical railway systems and as such has provided various support activities within the framework of top-level overall coordination.%Die neue Eisenbahn-Alpentransversale (NEAT) ist das Herzstück des europäischen Verkehrskorridors.
