Whitby, Edinburgh, Tunbridge Wells and Box Hill

I have just returned from a pleasant long weekend at the annual Whitby Regatta in North Yorkshire, where there was plenty of scanning action with two-way radios being used on land, sea and in the air. Ironically, we had fine weather in North Yorkshire while there was a severe weather warning in my home area of Hampshire, with flood warnings for the very same weekend! Not surprisingly, active VHF marine channels included 156.800MHz (Channel 16 - International Distress and Calling), together with 156.500MHz (Channel 10 - Ship-to-Ship), 156.600MHz (Channel 12 - Docks & Marinas), 156.700MHz (Channel 14 - Docks & Marinas) for general co-ordination. Other channels with activity were 156.000MHz (Channel 00 - Coastguard & RNLI), 156.375MHz (Channel 67 - Coastguard Working Channel) and 160.600MHz (Channel 99 - Coastguard Private Channel).
