The City Observatory is a historic complexof buildings. The original Observatory Houseto the southwest of the site was begun byThomas Short, telescope maker, in 1776 andcompleted in 1792 to a design by James Craigwith advice from Robert Adam. This build-ing, after lying derelict for some time, is cur-rently being refurbished.
